Bobby Unser and Ford go to Pikes Peak
Back in 1969 you think of Ford and David Pearson winning the NASCAR Championship. That is only natural but did you know that the 1969 Ford Torino also set a record at Pikes Peak with Bobby Unser at the wheel?
The video below is from an interview at the 2016 Muscle Car And Corvette Nationals (MCACN) in Chicago. Not only will you see Bobby but keep your eyes open for a photo bomb by our very own Marty Burke (hint 4:17). Although the interviewer represents the car as a Talladega and it does have a few Talladega clues it does not have the Talladega nose.
Interesting to see is the Boss 429 engine sitting in an engine bay that seems to have abundant room for the monster engine. This car is an original survivor unrestored race car!
Thanks for sharing . I enjoyed it very much . It’s nice to see such an original race car especially a Torino .
I was privileged to see this Torino in the personal Ford collection of Charles Chandler in Boerne, Texas in 1998. I really liked the rear mud-grip tires. I did not realize it was unrestored, very nice.
