2015 Talladega Family Reunion: Who was there?

As promised, the report of the 2015 Talladega Family Reunion with the Fairlane Club of America (FCA) will take sometime to compile and post. I am sorting through over 350 photos plus an hour or more of video! These pictures were taken on the show field. There were two types of judging. The first is the one conducted by our own Marti Burke as Chief Judge. It is a professional top notch procedure that considers correctness and quality of the car.

The other judging is people’s choice by class assigned by FCA. All of our car owners selected the People’s Choice Class.

To start with let’s take a look at who was there.

This Spoiler II belongs to Dave and Shirley Moots from WI and won first place in the Spoiler II class.

Mark and Jennifer Shilladay had their maiden trip to a Talladega Family Reunion with their car and took home third place in class. They are from New Hampshire.

Tennessee's own John McCloud was there with TWO cars or are they trucks? This is his hand built Mercury Spoiler II Ranchero! This vehicle took second place in the Ranchero class.

This Cale Yarborough Spoiler belongs to Kevin Ooms a new Team Member from Indiana.

This is not a Talladega but it belongs to Jim Ortega who is a new Team Member from Ohio who has just purchased a Talladega and is beginning a restoration. Based on this Fairlane the Dega will be beautiful.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.

  1. It was great to meet several of you! thanks for letting me probe you on details of your cars….What fun, chasing Richard in his T around the Bristol track in our Fairlane! Never thought I’d ever be doing that!
