2014 Event Announcement

Spoiler 118 (Small)As you know, 2014 is the 45th Anniversary of the Ford Aero Cars. Yes, it has been 45 years since the Ford Talladega and Mercury Spoiler II set the pace on the NASCAR Superspeedways. It was a very special time and the 45th Anniversary year will also be a special year. We would like to hear some of your personal stories about these cars or your personal experiences at the 1969 races. If you are too young to have been there but have some great second hand stories handed down from friends or relatives please pass those along as well.

Stories of your experiences with your car(s) since that time are also welcome. I know we all have some. If you are a little shy about writing just send along some of the basic info and we will put into a Post for the site. Think of it this way, if you don’t send me your stories to share then I am going to have to bore you with mine! Send them to: rfleener@comcast.net.

NOW, for our first Announcement; on July 19, 2014 we will be participating with a very special show in Lexington, KY. It will be the 10th Anniversary of the Keeneland Concourse d Elegance. We are limited to the number of cars that can participate in the formal display. This is an invitation only show and we have all the cars identified and confirmed for the show. There will be one of every color of 1969 Ford Talladega including the first and last production cars. There will also be one of every version of the 1969 Mercury Spoiler and Spoiler II cars. In addition there will be some other Specials and even a couple of race cars. We will be telling you more about each of the cars selected over the next few months.

We would like to make this the Talladega Family Reunion event for the year and include everyone. The Keeneland folks put on an excellent Concours and are super to work with. We are investigating the possibility of having reserved parking near our display for anyone with one of the Ford Aero cars to have a mini-show outside the Concours. They have done this in previous years with great support from participants as well as spectators. They draw a big crowd. If you would be interested in participating in this way please let me know as soon as possible. Contact me at: rfleener@comcast.net. We also have an event hotel identified and would like to have a night before the Concours gathering and a “bench racing” meet at the hotel after the Concours for anyone interested.

This is not the only big announcement for 2014 but it is the first and we will tell you about another right after the New Year!

If you are interested in one of our TalladegaSpoiler.com 2014 Calendars you better hurry; we have six left as of this date. If you want one please contact me immediately at: rfleener@comcast.net.

Some of my first and strongest memories from my childhood relate to cars. I still remember when things happened based on what car I was driving at the time. I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I was a Corvette fanatic for years but then re-discovered vintage American Muscle. My wife, Katrina, and I decided we wanted to focus on unique and rare muscle cars. After a lot of research we fell in love with the Ford Blue Oval Aero Cars. These were only built in 1969 and and aerodynamics became an important part of winning races. The only purpose of these limited production cars was to win NASCAR races using the Boss 429 and 427 power plants complimented with a special, wind cheating, aerodynamic body. The Ford Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II are terrific and historic cars. This site is devoted to these car and their owners past and present. We provide an Online Registry for recording the long term history and ownership of every remaining Talladega, Spoiler and Spoiler II.
